The Crown & the Ambassador: A Walkthrough of Authority in Christ

God’s authority has always been about rightful representation. He shares His crown with those who walk in His name. As ambassadors, we carry His authority—not our own—and advance His Kingdom until He returns.

What is an Ambassador?

An ambassador is a representative with delegated authority, sent to speak and act on behalf of their king or country. As ambassadors for Christ, we represent His Kingdom here on earth and carry His message—not our own.

  • An ambassador represents the authority and will of the one who sends them, not their own opinions or agenda.

    • They live in a foreign land but speak on behalf of their homeland and leader.

  • In Paul’s time, Roman ambassadors carried the authority of the emperor, often sent to extend Rome’s influence or offer peace.

    • Rejecting the ambassador was like rejecting the emperor himself.

  • When Paul says we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), he’s saying we’ve been sent by God with His message and His authority to represent His Kingdom on earth.

  • As Christ’s ambassadors, our lives are not about self-promotion but Kingdom representation—we speak, act, and pray as those who carry the message of reconciliation from God to the world.

Understanding Authority - Past, Present, Future

1. The King Reigns

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. - Genesis 1:1

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. - Psalm 103:19

Theme

  • God is King over everything. He wears the original Crown.

Ambassador Lens

  • No ambassador appoints themselves. The King is the source of all authority.

2. The Crown Is Delegated

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. - Genesis 1:26-28

What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet. - Psalm 8:4-6

Theme

  • God delegates authority to mankind to represent His rule on earth.

Ambassador Lens

  • Humanity was the first embassy of heaven, called to walk in the King’s image and rule on His behalf.

3. The Mission Is Compromised

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. - Genesis 3:6-7

and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. - Luke 4:6

Theme

  • Through sin, humanity abandons its post. Authority is handed to the enemy.

Ambassador Lens

  • The enemy seduces us into rebellion, and we no longer represent the King—we represent ourselves.

4. The King Sends a Rescue Mission

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. - Genesis 3:15

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. - Isaiah 9:6-7

Theme

  • God promises a Redeemer to reclaim the Kingdom and restore authority.

Ambassador Lens

  • The embassy isn’t closed—it’s under siege. But help is coming from the King Himself.

5. The King Comes in Person

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:14

13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. - Colossians 2:13-15

Theme

  • Jesus, the true King, comes in humility, walks in full authority, defeats the enemy, and reclaims the Crown.

Ambassador Lens

  • Jesus is the perfect Ambassador—sent from heaven, walking in complete alignment with the Father.

6. The King Restores His Representatives

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. - Luke 10:19

Theme

  • Jesus now commissions believers to carry His authority and represent His Kingdom on earth.

Ambassador Lens

  • We’re not spiritual civilians; we’re official representatives of a Kingdom. We wear the King’s insignia and speak and act in His name.

7. The Crown Will Be Fully Restored

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. - Philippians 2:9-11

His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. - Revelation 19:12

Theme

  • Jesus returns, wearing the Crown eternally. Until then, we rule under Him, not instead of Him.

Ambassador Lens

  • Our mission has an end date—the King is coming back, and He’ll reclaim the earth. Until then, we are His voice, His hands, His light.

Application: Exercising Our Authority in Christ

  1. Understand Your Position Before You Use Your Authority

  • Authority flows from your position in Christ, not your personal strength, feelings, or effort.

  • You are seated with Christ in victory — not standing on your own.

  • Authority is not about being loud or dramatic — it’s about being aligned.

5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, - Ephesians 2:5-6

Practical Step

  • Spend time daily in the Word and prayer, not just for knowledge, but to stay rooted in identity. Your boldness will rise from your nearness to Jesus.

2. Speak God’s Word with Boldness and Clarity

  • Jesus exercised authority by speaking the Word against temptation and opposition.

  • The spoken Word is a weapon — not just for inspiration, but confrontation.

Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” - Matthew 4:10

Practical Step

  • When facing fear, temptation, confusion, or spiritual heaviness, speak Scripture aloud. Declare truth. Don't just think it—speak it with authority.

3. Pray in Jesus’ Name with Faith and Obedience

  • Praying “in Jesus’ name” isn’t a formula—it means you’re coming in His authority and under His Lordship.

  • Your authority is strongest when you’re walking in obedience to Him.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me[e] anything in my name, I will do it. - John 14:12-14

Practical Step

  • When praying over others or in warfare situations, pray with boldness and humility, trusting in the name of Jesus—not your own ability.

4. Resist the Devil and He Will Flee

  • Submission to God is the first step in spiritual resistance.

  • When you resist, you don’t plead with the enemy—you command him to leave in the name of Jesus.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. - James 4:7

Practical Step

  • In moments of temptation, fear, or darkness, say aloud: “In the name of Jesus, I resist you. You have no place here. I belong to Christ.”

5. Use Your Authority with Discernment and Love

  • Not all spiritual opposition requires confrontation. Some require prayer, compassion, and gentle restoration.

  • Authority is not license to control—it’s a call to serve and protect others spiritually.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. - Galatians 6:1

Practical Step

  • When ministering to someone who may be oppressed, lead with discernment, not fear, and always submit the situation to the Holy Spirit in prayer before taking action.

6. In Cases of Demonic Oppression or Possession

  • If you are confident the issue is demonic, you have authority to command the spirit to leave in Jesus’ name.

  • Rarely act alone—pray with others, remain calm, and focus on Jesus’ power and peace.

And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons… - Mark 16:17

Practical Steps

  • Stay submitted to Christ and filled with the Spirit.

  • Speak with clarity and authority: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I command this spirit to leave.”

  • Surround with worship, Scripture, and prayer. If unsure, seek mature spiritual counsel and covering.

7. Live Daily as His Ambassador Until He Returns

  • Your authority isn’t just for crisis moments—it’s for everyday Kingdom influence.

  • You represent Jesus in your conversations, decisions, integrity, and prayers.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. - II Corinthians 5:20

Practical Step

  • Ask the Holy Spirit daily: “How can I represent Christ today?” Walk into every room knowing you are not alone—you are sent.
