Overcoming Pride Through Humility (Copy)

Opening Scriptures

  • II Timothy 1:7

  • I Corinthians 2:12-13

It’s a Spirit

  • II Timothy 1:7

  • The Bible means what it says

    • 3 types of spirits

      • Holy Spirit

      • Human spirit

      • Evil spirit

    • Sound mind

      • Discipline, the fruit of self-control from Holy Spirit

      • Not peace (sound mind)

Effects of the Working of the Spirit of Fear

  • Distorted perception

    • Numbers 13:27-33

    • The threat becomes larger, and God's presence, promises, or previous faithfulness become smaller in their thinking.

  • Hyperfocus on the threat

    • Exodus 14:10-12

    • Fear narrows attention. Instead of seeing the whole situation, the person begins seeing only what could go wrong.

Fear is a Spiritual Battle

  • Since fear is a spiritual battle, we’ve been armed and are led by the Holy Spirit

How to Fight and Win

  • No battle in which we undertake can be won on our own. We must be endowed by the power and presence of God Almighty through His very Spirit

  • God provides 3 antidotes to fear in the description of what He affords us

    • Power

      • Natural vs Supernatural

        • Natural

          • Centered on “I” (self-generated)

          • Spirit of the world teaches us you got this, you can do it

        • Supernatural

          • Has strength of character to be bold in the exercise of authority

          • Christ’s authority

            • Colossians 2:15

      • Allow God’s Power to Clothe You

        • Armor of God

        • Ephesians 6:10

    • Love

      • I John 4:18

      • We need not fear because we have been bought with a price and brought into the family of God

        • Romans 8:15 (AMPC)

      • Allow God’s Love to Fill You

        • Sit with the Lord

        • Psalm 25:5

    • Discipline

      • I Corinthians 9:24-27

      • Allow God’s Spirit to Regenerate You

        • Antidote for this fear is Scripture

        • God regenerates you through His Word

          • II Timothy 3:16-17 (AMPC)

Conclusion

  • No battle in which we undertake can be won on our own. We must be endowed by the power and presence of God Almighty through His very Spirit
